"Escape to New York"

Writer: Doug Moench
Artists: Joe Phillips & Bob Dvorak

Scott, Barda and Oberon move from Bailey, New Hampshire to Manhattan. Scott feels that the Justice league will have less a chance of finding him and recruiting him for their world saving adventures there.

When they arrive in and settle into a new place in Greenwich Village they go out for food. Motherbox tells Scott to head to Washington Square Park where they see a young escape artist performing by the name of Shilo Norman.

While in a straight jacket, a thief takes Shilo’s hat full of money, $2.75 to be precise. Shilo runs after him and stops him only to be confronted by three of the thief’s mates. Mister Miracle and Big Barda come to his aid.

Scott Free takes Shilo aside and says he wants to chat about a little matter of passing a torch. Which leaves Oberon gobsmacked.

Overall Rating: 6/10

Not a bad read, not pack full of action but a reasonably important issue in the DC universe as Scott Free begins his handover of the Mister Miracle identity to Shilo Norman.

Favorite Panel:

The final panel is my favorite.

"Double Danger at the Daily Bugle"

Writer: Bill Mantlo
Artists: Sal Buscema & Dave Hunt

Blizzard stops the last shipment of the Daily Bugle newspaper from being delivered and DD swings in to try and stop him but fails.

Peter Parker walks into the Daily Bugle to find it has been hijacked by crooks headed by Electro. Daredevil figures out the reason why the newspaper deliveries were stopped, and it leads him to the Daily Bugle.

Together Spidey and DD battle Electro and Blizzard in the printing room basement at the Daily Bugle.

Overall Rating: 6/10

I am a fan of Electro and DD so I enjoyed this light hearted team-up but there are better stories of Electro out there.

"Stalking: Part two"
.
Writer: Lee Marrs
Artists: Eddy Newell

The motorcyclist detonates a bomb in the subway. The package to Jim Gordon is a warning and he sends his wife and child away from the south district.

The motorcyclist’s finale is meant to be a concert and Batman tracks her down and a fight and chase ensues in whish she gets away.

She then goes to Jim’s apartment and tries to tap the phone and find Jim’s wife and child’s location. Batman is waiting a great fight and chase follows and the motorcyclist dies trying to kill Gordon, who is saved by Batman. As she dies she says “Ben Conly avenged. All of it on your head, Gordon…”

Jim replies “I don’t remember any Conly! So many over the years… who the hell…”

Overall Rating: 8/10

The conclusion didn’t disappoint. I love how something so insignificant to Gordon can be so significant for this psycho killer. An extremely good Batman double even though a little bit wordy in terms of Batman and how he relates to ‘his’ city.

Favorite Panel:

A lot of great panels in this issue, but this one of Batman and Jim Gordon standing side by side in silence is my favorite.

Batman Legends of the Dark Knight #107

(DC)
June 1998

Good Guy: Batman
Bad Guy: Female Motorcycle Killer

Cameos: Jim Gordon, Alfred Pennyworth

Review

"Stalking: Part one"

Writer: Lee Marrs
Artist: Eddy Newell

A female motorcyclist sets off a series of explosions at the Gotham docks. The next night she conducts a series of drive by shootings where she guns down some innocent kids.

The killings have all taken place in Detective Jim Gordon’s precinct so Batman is drawn there on the third night and searches for a pattern. Meanwhile the female motorcyclist, helmet still on, undertakes more killings of chauffeurs in the below ground car-park at a fundraising dinner.

The killer sends a note to Jim Gordon ‘The dead are on your head Gordon. Eyes for an eye. Revenge.’

Batman locates the motorcyclist and he realizes she has been following the street-sweepers route.

The final panel is Mrs Gordon receiving an unidentified package.

Overall Rating: 8/10

After the panel where the psycho female motorcyclist guns down an innocent kid, it left me really looking forward to Batman making her pay.

Good artwork and though a little wordy at the start – I really want to see what happens in part two.
